The other side

I am 12 pages or half an intro and a full conclusion away from completing the "defense draft" of my thesis. I just wanted to savor this moment (read: procrastinate further). Its not perfect. Its not grandiose, or especially eloquent. But its mine, all mine, and its nearly done.

Also, when I am done, I plan to start on that photo project about Berkeley, #5 on my Grad Bucket List. And I booked a campsite for Yosemite in March, #2 on my bucket list!

Across the frozen middle

This is my third trip across the country in as many weeks. If all goes well I will be in Jacksonville tonight. Fingers crossed that I won't be sucked into the ice sheet that is the middle of America today.

The Graduate Bucket List

(this was me just days after moving to Berkeley, soaking in the sunshiney love after escaping the loud, smelly, concrete mountain that was SF)

Since my inner shutter-bug has been less forthcoming. I thought I would put down in words an idea I have been toying with.

What are the things I want to do before graduating? before leaving my beloved Berkeley?
Here are a few in descending order:

10. Have a picnic in the Berkeley Rose Garden. I shot a wedding there once, and on a warm sunny day, that place is heavenly.
9. Try ecstatic dance. I know I will both love and hate this experience. Love it for its expressiveness and silliness, hate it for its utter clicheness: being all that is lovely (and absurd) about Berkeley and the Bay for that matter.
8. Attend a public lecture at the GTU. I have been to several at my member school, but never one hosted by GTU. Seems a pity to graduate without attending at least one.
7. Eat at Chez Panisse (the cafe, because lord knows I can't afford/justify the full restaurant experience).
6. Visit that little museum on PSR's campus. I like museums.
5. Do a photo project about Berkeley, for nostalgia purposes later one.
4. Go to a poetry slam. Not that I have anything to read, I just want to listen. Berkeley seems a proper place to hear a poetry slam. I have been to one in each city I have lived in (except while in Japan) and I always like the way the readings capture something unique about each place.
3. Drink as much Philz Coffee as possible before I no longer have access to this divine liquid. I miss it already.
2. Visit Yosemite. Its my favorite place in the world and I haven't been there since I was 13 years old. What's wrong with me!? I live 3 hours from the place!!
1. And the absolute MUST do before leaving Berkeley is finish my thesis (on time!).
